Syzstrum Synod: First Looks

So Fantasy Faire is here again, and if you've never been, lemme tell you... It's worth it just to wander through the worlds that creators have summoned from The Mists. I've gone every year since I joined Second Life (2019, so not long) and as usual, Walton Wainwright and his talented crew of extraordinary friends/artists/fellow creators never disappoints.

For FF2023, Wainwright's contribution was the illustrious and daunting build of Szystrum Synod. An aetherpunk dream full of conscious robots and art deco/nouveau surroundings. From the official lore:

Nestled among the stars lies a world where machines left by long-forgotten creators have pried the secrets of the cosmos from the grasp of mystery. Strange entities have taken up artificial bodies to colonize worlds through their mastery of technology and connection to spirituality; the likes of which were previously mere whispers of myth. Seven noble houses congregate on an artificial moon forged from technology so incomprehensible to mortal perception, that it can only be perceived as magic. Take a brave step onto an Aetherpunk artificial moon and explore a congregation of seven noble eclectic and extraordinary houses.

Wainwright's love for fantastical lore and detailed storytelling was shining through every bit of the sim, from the color coded walls, floors, and banners for each house to the corresponding themes that tied houses to their culture, and let's not forget the special easter egg links to the history of the houses as well as a quiz you can take to determine what house you would most likely belong to, a mood board for character design, and a lovely and most-fitting playlist for the build. It's these little smatterings of elements that always make the Contraption sim the best sim of the Faire (in my very humble opinion, of course).
